Boosting Leicestershire's Broadband: Last week to complete our survey!

The internet is transforming the way that we live, work and play. It is driving business innovation and growth, ensuring that people can access services, is opening up new opportunities for creative learning and will help transform how we deliver public services. Whilst some areas benefit from super-fast broadband a significant proportion, mainly within rural areas, are left in the slow-lane.

The Rural Community Council (Leicestershire and Rutland) is working with local authorities, including the County Council, and communities to deliver super-fast broadband to all premises in Leicestershire by 2017, subject to securing necessary funding. Initially our vision is to deliver to over 90% by 2015. To help us achieve this 2015 target the County Council has allocated £4m to match the Government's £3m.

Boosting Leicestershire's Broadband: Last week to complete our survey!
In addition to this investment it is critical that we raise demand for super-fast broadband. To date we over 3000 questionnaire responses from Leicestershire households and businesses have been received in support of plans to improve broadband connectivity.

There is still time for those who live or work in rural Leicestershire to respond. Please complete the online survey available at www.leics.gov.uk/broadband. The survey closes on the 30th April 2012. It is anticipated that deployment will commence in 2013.

For more information please contact Matthew Kempson (matthew.kempson@leics.gov.uk, 0116 305 6179)

CONSULTATION ON PROPOSALS FOR A NEW PUBLIC TRANSPORT SUPPORT POLICY

Leicestershire County Council has been reviewing its current Bus Service Policy which supports contracted local bus services and taxi bus type services (Demand Responsive Transport). This work is necessary to contribute towards the £74 million savings the Council has to make over the next four years by reducing bus service support by £750,000 over the next two years.

The service alterations are proposed following a Scrutiny Panel’s review and recommendations for a new Public Transport Support Policy in Leicestershire. Details of this can be found online at www.leics.gov.uk/transportconsultation, from where you will be able to access the consultation leaflets relating to proposed changes to services in your area.

We are also inviting responses on the proposed policy changes and these comments can be made by visiting our website at www.leics.gov.uk/transportconsultation, or a hard copy can be requested by phone on 0116 305 0002 or by email to publictransportpolicy@leics.gov.uk.
