Loughborough South West Area Forum
Mon, 11 Jul 2011 6:30pm

The last meeting was held at Holywell Free Church in Berkeley Road. 55 people were in attendance. The meeting received a feedback from Andy Robinson, the County Council's Assistant Chief Executive, on the Green Spaces consultation and on the County's approach to Big Society. The meeting expressed it's continuing concern that the green space between Loughborough and the Outwoods be protected for the benefit of this and future generations. The meeting also expressed concern at the levels of congestion in the Forum area and the increasing numbers of cars. It wished to discuss with the University and others how the area might become less car-dependent.

Mon, 07 Mar 2011

The last meeting was held at Holywell Free Church, Berkeley Road, Loughborough LE11 3SJ on 7th March 2011.

Over 300 people (a Forum record) attended the meeting to express their strong feelings on the value of the open countryside, in particular the area between Loughborough and the Outwoods. They urged councillors and officers to protect this asset for both present and future generations. Due to the sheer volume of numbers, the format of the meeting needed to change, but Tom Purnell, from the County Council, made the meeting aware of the various ways that people can represent their views before the consultation period ends on 15th April 2011. One of the ways is to visit the website at www.leics.gov.uk/greenspaces

The results of all consultation methods will be collated and this will help to inform local policy and planning processes as well as our response to emerging national policies.

Thu, 15 Oct 2009

The last meeting of Loughborough South West area forum was held at Mountfields Lodge School, Epinal Way, Loughborough.

About thirty members of the community attended the workshop with their ideas about how they think a Forum budget of £20,000 can best be used within the following priorities;

Opportunities and facilities for children and young people
Improving access to services
Creating cleaner, greener, safer living environments

Most people seem to have enjoyed the evening with comments received like "I enjoyed gaining an overview of other's ideas in this locality" and "There was a good, friendly, and constructive atmosphere".

A good range of project ideas were brought forward but the final voting identified two strong favourites, both of them footpath schemes, one being in the Outwoods area and the other creating a path between two local schools.

Loughborough South West Area Forum Meeting 3rd July 2008.
Thu, 03 Jul 2008

Loughborough South West Area Forum met on the evening of the 3rd of July in the Beacon Room at Loughborough Town Hall. The meeting was chaired by Councillor Peter Lewis, with forty one people present.

There were two main items for discussion, anti-social behaviour and street drinking. Charnwood Borough Council officers attended to explain what actions the Council could take in this regard and people were given an opportunity to ask questions and raise issues with them.

Items raised included graffiti, disposal of waste, and the process of reporting incidents. It was stressed in the meeting that agencies including the police, Housing etc, can now share information more readily, and that if anybody needs to report an incident they can use a 24 – hour Ansaphone by dialling (01509) 634550.

The Police also came to the meeting and pointed out that street drinking was not prohibited but only restricted in certain areas around the town centre.

The effect of this is that they have the power to confiscate and dispose of open containers, but would normally only do this after first trying to reason with the person or people concerned.
