The health improvement specialists team have secured funding from the Department of Health (DoH) for a year long project as part of the ‘Wave 3’ East Midlands Pacesetters programme to address health inequalities.
Launching in June this project will focus on Bangladeshi smokers in Charnwood where smoking prevalence in this group is one of the highest countywide.
Pacesetters is a DoH funded programme to tackle health inequalities for patients and provide working environments that are fair and free from discrimination. It provides an opportunity to deliver innovative partnership projects to test out new ways of addressing health inequalities. More »
Health Improvement Services team manager Patsy Richards said, “The Bangladeshi population in Charnwood has high rates of smoking and tobacco chewing which contributes to higher rates of long-term ill health conditions. We will be working with other local pacesetter projects and key partners to increase opportunities for engagement in this project for the Bangladeshi community.”

A new concrete skatepark is replacing an old, and inadequate, skatepark at Southfields Park. Designed by Freestyle Skateparks, with funding raised by Charnwood Borough Council and Loughborough Skatepark association, work on the new one will commence on 16th August and will last for about 10 weeks.
Councillor Peter Lewis, Lead Member for Leisure and Culture, said "Thanks to all our funding partners, due to their joint effort a new skatepark at Southfield Park will be created for the local community to enjoy". More »
Julian Holt, Chairman of the Loughborough Skatepark association, said: "After the hard work put in over the previous years by all concerned, it's great to see the project coming to fruition. Loughborough sorely needs this facility and I look forward to sampling the concrete myself on a regular basis". « Less
Charnwood Community Safety Partnership will be holding an Anti-social behaviour roadshow at the Market Place in Loughborough on 11th August. This is part of the Safer Summer campaign which is designed to tackle the increase in graffiti, vandalism, criminal damage and underage drinking which can occur during school holidays.
Residents will get the chance to voice their concerns to representatives from Charnwood Borough Council, the Police, Human Rights and Equalities, Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing and local councillors
Members of the local community are invited to The Big Lunch at Fearon Hall (Parish Green) Sunday 18th July 2010, 12pm to 4pm
