Community Forum Budgeting Workshops 2011!
Leicestershire County Council has made £320,000 per year available for local communities to invest in local improvement projects of their choice.
How did local communities get involved in 2011?
Of the £320,000 allocated across the twenty five Community Forum areas, over 232 local groups and organisations requested a share, with 139 being successful in provisionally securing funds.
By sending in project proposal forms prior to the workshop, other local residents and organisations were able to view & comment on submitted Project Proposals via the website, and make suggestions on how the projects could be further improved or developed.
Each Community Forum area then held an interactive workshop where projects were discussed in detail, and all present were able to vote on their favourite projects.
Successful projects included play grounds, community centres, services and facilities for young people, sports related projects, projects aimed at providing support to vulnerable people, projects encouraging volunteering, , projects to bring the community together, projects aimed at providing opportunities for training & skills development and projects aimed at improving community safety, including road safety.
Feedback from each of the Community Forum Budget Workshops was positive, with over 90% feeling they had plenty of opportunity to participate in the process, 88% enjoying the workshop and feeling glad they attended and 73% feeling that projects were prioritised in a fair and inclusive way.
Further information on the results can be found by visiting your local Community Forum area page, or by calling 0116 305 7034.
Each of the projects has been considered further by a partnership Task Group to ensure all projects were able to meet the funding criteria for Feasibility, Appropriateness and Sustainability. Once satisfied with each project, Leicestershire County Council issues an offer letter confirming the funding allocation to each project.
Many projects that were not successful in securing a share of the £320,000 have been assisted by Leicestershire County Council and partners in identifying alternative sources of funding, some of which can be found using the links below.
